Active Utp
Local Area Network through Wireless USB?
I am an Internet service provider through Local Area Network within about 2 km residential area.
I have a server (windows server 2003 + ISA server 2004 installed) which is serving more than 100 clients.
As I have mentioned above that I am providing interent service through Local Area Network using UTP CAT-5 cable.
Now I want to upgrade the technology of my network that my clients should be able to get the internet service on their PCs through wireless USB.
What accessories are required to setup a wireless local area network for example Antennas, USBs etc and what are the prices of these required accessories.
It should work in 2 km residential area that I will only provide a usb to my client and he should be able to get the internet service active.
This may be more of a job than you are considering.
You wish to cover a 2 KM (radius I presume) area. Standard 802.11 wireless range is at best 200 meters; secondly standard 802.11 wireless signal is weakened as it penetrates through denser building material (e.g. masonry, metals, etc).
If you wish to provide wired service to the user's building and then provide wireless within the building, you can use an 802.11 wireless access point. This would be fairly dependable.
If you wish to provide wireless service to the general area, both inside and outside the residence, 802.11 is probably not your best choice for the long distance so you would want some sort of roof antenna to capture the signal and convert it to 802.11 for inside use. There are many options for this. Take a look at the Proxim web site as they have a lot of experience in this and have many products. Once familiar with those products, check out their competitors to see what else is available. From that make your decision.
