how do i transfer audio from my digital recorder to Audacity?
I used to use Music Creator 2 to transfer audio from my digital voice recorder to the comp. I just replaced it with Audacity. With MC2 I would arm the track to record and click record on MC2 while pressing play on the recorder. Right now, I hook up the recorder and when I press play on it I can hear everything just fine on the comp's speakers. The trouble I'm having now is this: When I click "record" on Audacity and "play" on the recorder at the same time, it seems to be recording just fine. That is until I stop recording and play it back. It's as if nothing ever recorded. What am I missing?
I'm not familiar with MC2, but you need to check Audacity what Recording Device is set to. here's the relevant help page from Audacity:
Recording Device - Select the devce that will be used for recording / audio input. Note that many devices have multiple sources such as Microphone and Line in - to select the input source you will need to use the Mixer Toolbar.
For finer control over audio I/O, open your system's Sound control panel or the control panel that came with your sound card.

What is a good 8 track digital recorder to buy. Do they differ alot ?
most have generally the same stuff going on with some variations such ast inputs and set up. you get what you pay for. a good simple digi 8 track for making demos would be the fostex MR8. be sure to get the larger memory card or you will run into problems recording longer tracks. You can find them on ebay for cheap. Its easy to use and understand.
